Park at the parking area for the Long Pond Ironworks in Hewitt, NJ. Follow the trail to the left as it passes several old building that are part of the ironworks "park". As you continue to walk on the wide, flat trail you will come to the area of the Revolutionary and Civil War iron furnaces. Turn right here and cross the Wanaque River on a bridge.Continue straight ahead when, in a short distance, a trail branches off to the right at about .5 miles. The trail will now begin a long ascent to the plateau which is Big Beach. The trail is rocky in some places and wet in others. At about 2.0 miles there will be a nice viewpoint after a short, steep climb, The views are to the east and south and Hasenclever Hill is prominent in the east. As you continue up the hill the high point will be off the trail to your left or north. Back on the trail you may return the way you came or continue to walk for only another .15 miles until you cross the NJ-NY birder. Return the way you came.
